The four-time All-Star hasn't yet produced like he can, but there are zero concerns since the new season is just over a month old. The 26-year-old's .374 on-base percentage is elite as always, but the powers numbers are significantly down, with three homers and a .398 slugging percentage through 30 games. However, Soto's presence in the lineup is clearly a factor, as the Mets boast an MLB-best 21-9 record. The five-tool star has been his usual excellent self at the plate, slashing .288/.397/.568 with seven home runs, 25 RBIs, and eight stolen bases. It's not just his production that stands out, however, as his presence seems to have made everyone around him better. However, the 31-year-old's been Boston's best player to start 2025. He leads the team in hits (40), doubles (11), homers (six), RBIs (23), batting average (.331), OPS (.971), and fWAR (1.5). Injuries to both holdovers have forced Fried to become the ace in New York, and he's done an excellent job so far. The lefty owns a 5-0 record with a 1.43 ERA and 1.06 WHIP through six starts, having not allowed more than two earned runs in any of them. The 30-year-old's FIP and WHIP are consistently going up while his K/9 goes down, which suggests he's not the dominant swing-and-miss pitcher he once was. His 4.1 BB/9 in 2025 is also a career worst. Burnes' whiff rate is in the 27th percentile and hard-hit percentage is shockingly in the fifth percentile. The fit was always questionable on paper: Oracle Park in San Francisco is a tough place for righties to hit for power. So, his letter is based on his lack of availability. The two-time Cy Young winner hasn't pitched in almost a month due to a shoulder issue, and a timetable for his return is unclear after a recent injection. The 32-year-old isn't new to injuries, as he logged just 104 innings last year and only made 31-plus starts in a season twice over his 10-year career. The 23-year-old starter has shown flashes of what made him such a hot commodity during the offseason, but his skills aren't refined yet and feel raw. He's only made it through six innings once and has walked almost as many batters (18) and he's struck out (20). Sasaki's Baseball Savant page is also covered with blue outside of fastball velocity. <p>Pittsburgh Pirates ace <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/17521" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/17521">Paul Skenes</a> wants to be remembered as a pitcher who had a long career while breaking velocity barriers.</p><p>"Yeah, that's the goal," Skenes told <a href="https://www.si.com/mlb/paul-skenes-rise-of-pitching-velocity-baseball-ultimate-barrier-digital-cover">Tom Verducci of Sports Illustrated</a>. "Nobody in the big leagues has my stuff. We're writing our own book. Because I've tried it the other way. It doesn't work. It's my game out there. There is no model for me"</p><p>The 22-year-old phenom is doing everything he can to stay healthy amid an epidemic of pitching injuries throughout baseball related to increased velocity.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>"I'm trying to know more than anybody else," Skenes said. "There is an element of chance to it. There's also an element to do everything you can and know your body. And I think that a lot of people, they just don't know what they don't know. I'm trying to be the first guy to do these things, right?"</p><p>Pirates general manager Ben Cherington acknowledged that Skenes' demeanor reminds him of another MLB superstar.</p><p>"It's the combination of the quality of the pitches with an assassin's mindset," Cherington said. "He's also just really big and strong and intimidating.</p><p>"Comparisons are really dangerous  …  but I can make this one because it's less about the players but more about the people. This is what I remember about <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/4184" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/4184">Mookie Betts</a>. A combination of incredibly high standards, a willingness to work for those, but a deep humility in how they go about their work."</p><p>Skenes owns a 2.39 ERA with a 0.80 WHIP and 39 strikeouts over 37 2/3 innings (six starts) this year. He sits in the 95th percentile for fastball velocity in 2025 after finishing in the 99th percentile last season.</p>

<p>CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Chase Elliott, son of a NASCAR Hall of Famer and the sport's most popular driver, has 19 career Cup Series wins and championship titles in both the Cup and Xfinity Series.</p>
<p>But if not for one critical partnership, Elliott is convinced he may not have ever made it as a professional racer.</p>
<p>That pairing is with sponsor NAPA Auto Parts, which this Sunday will celebrate its 100th year as a company with gold cars at Texas Motor Speedway to commemorate its anniversary. NAPA joined Elliott in 2014 when he raced in the Xfinity Series for JR Motorsports and has been his primary sponsor ever since.</p>

<p>NAPA was his primary sponsor in the races where he clinched his Xfinity and Cup championships, and for all but six of his Cup Series wins. If not for the company taking a chance on the then-18-year-old son of Bill Elliott, he's not sure what path his career might have taken.</p>
<p>“NAPA has defined my entire career, I've said it a lot,” Elliott told The Associated Press. “I've tried to express my appreciation for them, but if they don't come on board, I don't think 2014 happens. You're essentially looking at the Xfinity championship never happening. We were going to run a handful of races had NAPA not signed on. We were talking about a part-time season and going full-time wasn't going to be possible without that money, without that deal coming. So, yeah, it was more than a little career defining.”</p>
<p>Although NAPA is a 100-year old company, its involvement in race car sponsorships didn't begin until 2001 when it joined Dale Earnhardt Inc. with Michael Waltrip. Waltrip won his debut race with the brand — the Daytona 500 in which Earnhardt was killed on the final lap.</p>
<p>NAPA stayed with Waltrip through his time at DEI and then moved with him when he started his own team. The brand then shifted to Michael Waltrip Racing driver Martin Truex Jr., but cut its ties after MWR was involved in a 2013 late-season cheating scandal.</p>
<p>That made the company available for a new NASCAR driver and settled on unproven Elliott, who is from Georgia, where NAPA is headquartered.</p>
<p>Jeff Gordon, now vice chairman at Hendrick Motorsports, wasn't involved in Rick Hendrick's courtship of turning NAPA into the largest supplier of Hendrick Automotive and also a NASCAR sponsor. But he was a keynote speaker at NAPA's convention in Las Vegas a little over a week ago and understands how much the company means to the Hendrick brand and Elliott's career.</p>
<p>“When Chase says that NAPA defined his career, he means that,” Gordon told the AP. “He doesn't say anything he doesn't 100% mean. We all have these moments in our career where things could have gone either way. For me it was DuPont (sponsorship) and for Chase it was NAPA. I can't even imagine Chase on track without NAPA some part of his car.”</p>
<p>NAPA's racing portfolio has expanded over the years. NAPA signed on as an associate partner with Ron Capps and Don Schumacher Racing in 2007 and the next year NAPA became Capps' primary sponsor. NAPA became the official auto parts store of the NHRA this year.</p>
<p>Capps ran the gold commemorative car in last weekend's NHRA event.</p>
<p>NAPA also partnered with Andretti Autosport in IndyCar in May 2016 with Indianapolis 500 winner Alexander Rossi. That sponsorship has ended. In NASCAR, NAPA initially sponsored Waltrip and then Truex Jr., then moved to be primary sponsor of Elliott the next season.</p>
<p>As part of the centennial celebration this weekend, the gold cars will also be run by Daniel Hemric in the Truck Series and sprint car racer Brad Sweet, who is racing at Texas' dirt track this weekend. NAPA plans to bring all the gold cars together for a photo opportunity.</p>
<p>Based on his age — Elliott is now 29 — he doesn't associate the NAPA traditional blue and gold paint scheme with any driver but himself. After all, NAPA has backed his entire NASCAR national series career.</p>
<p>“I've spent so much time with them at this point that it feels like home,” Elliott said. “It feels like a true partnership and they definitely feel like part of my family.”</p>

"Just probably wasn't getting through it."</p><p>Ragans owns a 4.40 ERA with 1.17 WHIP and an AL-leading 46 strikeouts over 30 2/3 innings (six starts) this season.</p>

The skipper said Arraez woke up with a stiff neck and was cut on his jaw but slept well. "I didn't know it until I saw it this morning."</p><p>Snitker also acknowledged he hasn't spoken to Acuña, who was removed from a game in August 2019 for a lack of hustle on a similar play.</p><p>"I heard about it as I was walking to the dugout," the 69-year-old said when asked about Acuña's response. "I heard something was up. I came in and they said it was down. I haven't talked to him, so I don't know."</p><p>Acuña is on the injured list as he continues to rehab from knee surgery after he tore his left ACL last May. The 27-year-old also tore his right ACL during the Braves' championship-winning campaign in 2021.</p>

"I mean, if you just look at the results, <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/5221" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/5221">Rowdy (Tellez)</a> was way off-balance (during his at-bat). I didn't have the pitches. But that's just how it is. I'd want my pitchers doing the same thing if somebody thought they were tipping."</p><p>This isn't the first time Raleigh has made headlines after an issue with the Blue Jays. In April 2024, he said a lot of guys in baseball have beef with Toronto manager John Schneider.</p><p>Raleigh has owned the Blue Jays over his career. He entered Saturday's contest with nine homers and a 1.001 OPS across 18 regular-season games before going 2-for-3 in the victory, including a two-run double off Berríos.</p>

<p><a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/8173" href="/mlb/players/8173">Kyle Tucker</a> looks like he's primed to be the crown jewel of free agency next offseason.</p><p>The Chicago Cubs and the All-Star outfielder aren't currently negotiating a contract extension, sources told <a href="https://fansided.com/mlb-insider-cubs-haven-t-started-contract-talks-kyle-tucker">Robert Murray of FanSided</a>. </p><p>However, the two sides could engage in contract talks this summer, according to <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/04/17/sports/kyle-tucker-cubs-could-initiate-extension-talks-this-summer/">Jon Heyman of the New York Post</a>.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The reports come on the heels of rumors the Cubs and Tucker had discussed a new deal that would prevent the 28-year-old from hitting the open market.</p><p>Tucker is off to a torrid start this season, slashing .318/.419/.636 with six homers, 21 RBIs, and four stolen bases over 22 games. He was traded to Chicago over the winter after spending the first seven years of his career with the Houston Astros.</p>

"When you see a team trade him, 99 out of 100 players would probably be wondering, 'What does that mean?' That's the question I asked myself.</p><p>"And obviously if I went there, <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/5367" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/5367">(Alex) Bregman</a> wouldn't have been going there - that's another player."</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Arenado blocked the deal to the Astros in mid-December, five days after the Tucker trade was finalized. The former would've replaced Bregman, who eventually signed with the Boston Red Sox, as Houston's starting third baseman.</p><p>The 33-year-old acknowledged the Astros were originally on his five-team list of preferred destinations but his perspective changed.</p><p>"There was rumors of me going there, and there was a chance, obviously, but at the end of the day, Bregman wasn't going back there, I think that kind of threw everybody off," Arenado said. "I think we all thought there was a chance he would retire an Astro. That group of players, it just seemed like they all gelled well together. When you saw that not happening, it's kind of crazy."</p><p>The eight-time All-Star added that seeing <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/8415" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/8415">Framber Valdez</a> and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/3675" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/3675">Ryan Pressly</a>'s names in trade rumors also created doubt in his mind about going to Houston, according to Rome. Pressly ended up getting dealt to the Cubs, too.</p><p>The Astros quickly pivoted to signing first baseman <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/3836" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/3836">Christian Walker</a> once it became clear that Arenado was no longer a viable option.</p>

Not until he tagged me."</p><p>Twins manager Rocco Baldelli wasn't thrilled with the mental error.</p><p>"Jose has to do better on that play," Baldelli said. "The guy on the other side of the field was not on the bag, and Jose didn't make it to the bag on the slide either way. And the umpire was clearly signaling safe. We have to be paying attention, to say the least. We have to be paying attention there and never allow something like that to happen."</p><p>The defeat dropped Minnesota to 4-11, which is the second-worst record in baseball.</p>

<p>Former Chicago White Sox right-hander <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///wbc/players/1404" href="https://thescore.com/wbc/players/1404">Lance Lynn</a> believes his old team is lacking in comparison to every other MLB franchise.</p><p>"Chicago is behind everybody. It's just the honest truth," Lynn told "<a href="https://x.com/FoulTerritoryTV/status/1910426565273399509">Foul Territory</a>." "There's a lot of great people there, but when it comes to top-to-bottom organizationally, like even minor leagues coming up - I went down and spent a month rehabbing my knee there, and I stayed with the Triple-A team. </p><p>"Just seeing the way that things were going about. ... There definitely needs to be some changes. And there still probably needs to be some changes just by going off some of the things I've heard and seen."</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Lynn, who retired at the beginning of April after a 13-year career, pitched for the White Sox between 2021-23. He finished as a 2021 AL Cy Young finalist after helping the team win the AL Central that season.</p><p>The 37-year-old's comments come as the White Sox dropped their eighth straight game after a 2-2 start to the season.</p><p>Chicago set a modern-day record with 121 losses in 2024.</p>
