The Milwaukee Brewers exercised the $15.5-million option on the contract of World Series MVP catcher William Contreras, the team announced Monday.
Contreras put together another solid regular season for the Brewers, slashing .270/.341/.417 with 18 home runs, 27 doubles, and 94 RBIs.
He was terrific during the playoffs, hitting .373/.448/.588 with three homers and nine RBIs, and he was also dazzling behind the plate during the Brewers' World Series win over the Tampa Bay Rays.
Milwaukee also announced it made a qualifying offer to first baseman Jake Bauers and declined options on catcher Gary Sánchez and relief pitcher Antonio Senzatela.
Right-hander Dustin May declined his player option, and outfielder Akil Baddoo was claimed off waivers by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
