Jeanie Buss has filed a petition to a Los Angeles Superior Court, asking that a judge block her siblings' attempt to sell the family's remaining shares in the Los Angeles Lakers, according to documents obtained by The Athletic's Sam Amick and Melody Gutierrez.
Jeanie is also accusing them of secretly orchestrating a deal to try to remove her as the team's governor, Amick and Gutierrez add.
Her petition was processed by the court Wednesday.
Jeanie called her siblings' behavior "devious" and demanded the ousting of Joey and Janie Buss as co-trustees of a trust that holds the family's remaining 17.8% stake in the Lakers, citing breach of fiduciary duty.
An ownership stake of at least 15% is required to serve as team governor, meaning Jeanie would lose her current role if her siblings completed the transaction with new Lakers majority owners Josh Kushner and Bob Iger.
"Jeanie never agreed to any sale, was never consulted, and was never even informed," the petition states.
Jeanie also argued in her petition that selling the iconic NBA franchise doesn't make financial sense, given the team's "continuously skyrocketing value." The 64-year-old succeeded her father, Jerry, as team governor following his death in 2013, and her goal is to continue carrying out his legacy.
"Indeed, other owners of stakes in the Lakers have expressed their support for Jeanie remaining controlling owner, and have voiced their intent to hold, not sell, their stakes in the Lakers," according to the petition.
A court hearing is scheduled for Nov. 5.
