Oregon quarterback Dante Moore isn't expected to return this season after suffering a concussion Sept. 26 against USC, head coach Dan Lanning announced Monday.
The Ducks have gone 1-2 in their last three games with Moore sidelined, bringing their record to 4-3 on the season.
"If it was up to Dante in any shape, way, he would be out there playing for the guys," Lanning said, according to ESPN's Paolo Uggetti. "This isn't a selfish decision on Dante's part, saying, 'I don't want to come back, the season doesn't look the way I want it to look.' That's not at all what this is."
Moore was carted off the field versus USC after taking a hit to the head while sliding on a scramble. Lanning later called the hit "disgusting," and Moore spent time at Los Angeles General Medical Center before being diagnosed with a concussion.
The 21-year-old returned to practice a couple of weeks ago but hasn't suited up in a contest since suffering the injury. Oregon, which has played both Dylan Raiola and Brock Thomas over its last three games, has struggled to get consistent quarterback play in Moore's absence.
Lanning dismissed offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer after Sunday's 21-10 loss to Illinois. Since losing Moore, Oregon has posted a 41.2% offensive success rate, ranking 107th in the country.
Last offseason, Moore opted to come back to Oregon rather than declare for the 2026 NFL Draft. He was considered a top prospect for the 2027 draft going into this season.
