Former NFL quarterback Russell Wilson interviewed for the head coaching position at NC State on Tuesday, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Wilson, a 10-time Pro Bowler, played college football at NC State from 2008-10 before transferring to Wisconsin in 2011. He has no coaching experience.

NC State fired former head coach Dave Doeren on Oct. 24 after going 3-4 to begin his 14th season with the program. Interim coach Todd Goebbel led the Wolfpack to a 31-10 victory over Cal in their first game since Doeren's departure.

Wilson announced his retirement from the NFL in June after 14 seasons. He joined CBS Sports as an analyst on "The NFL Today" panel for the 2026-27 campaign.

The 37-year-old joins fellow former NC State quarterback Philip Rivers as candidates for the head coaching role. Rivers, 44, has served as the coach at St. Michael Catholic High School in Fairhope, Alabama, for six seasons. He told NC State that he wants to finish his current high school season, sources told ESPN.

River's son, 4-star quarterback Gunner Rivers, has been committed to NC State since February.
