Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni isn't worried about new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion stepping into a role he's never been in before.
"I'm not at all concerned there as far as his inexperience on that because he's worked his ass off," Sirianni said, according to NBC Sports Philadelphia's Dave Zangaro. "And I know that he'll work his ass off to be as ready as he possibly can that day.
"And he's got people there and coaches there with him, like coach (Josh) Grizzard, Parks (Frazier), myself, that have done this and have been in this situation. He's got a lot of people to help bounce ideas off of."
Mannion has been an NFL coach for just two seasons and has never been an offensive play-caller. He spent the last couple of years working under Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur as an offensive assistant and quarterbacks coach.
The 34-year-old was selected in the third round of the 2015 draft by the then-St. Louis Rams after a four-year run as Oregon State's starting quarterback. He then spent six years in the league, which included playing 14 games under the guidance of Sean McVay and Kevin O'Connell.
Mannion is expected to push the Eagles' offense toward playing under center more - a significant shift from what Sirianni and quarterback Jalen Hurts have run since the tandem joined forces in 2021. Hurts' 102 under-center pass attempts dating back to that year rank last among 36 qualifying quarterbacks, according to TruMedia. For comparison, Jared Goff's 808 attempts sit first during that span.
Philadelphia initially sought out a candidate with offensive coordinator experience after firing Kevin Patullo in January. However, as the search progressed, the organization landed on Mannion as the ideal person to help transform its offense after a disappointing 2025 season.
"This dude loves football, and he loves to work," Sirianni added. "I've really enjoyed being around him and just his desire. Sometimes we think, 'Man he's talented' about everybody, 'Man he's just got it.' But it doesn't happen without - whether it's a player, whether it's Sean - it doesn't happen without just this obsession to get better."
The Eagles report to training camp July 28 and will face the Washington Commanders in their season opener.
