Anthony Cirelli of the Tampa Bay Lightning, Brock Nelson of the Colorado Avalanche, and Nick Suzuki of the Montreal Canadiens are the finalists for the 2026 Frank J. Selke Trophy, the NHL announced Wednesday.

The award is given annually to the forward who best excels at defensive aspects of the game. It's voted on by the Professional Hockey Writers' Association.

Cirelli is a finalist for the second year in a row after finishing third in voting last season. This season, he ranked fourth among all NHL forwards with a plus-38 rating and 11th in the league in shorthanded ice time despite missing 11 games. The Lightning outscored opponents 76-42 at even strength with Cirelli on the ice, and he contributed 52 points.

Nelson has never appeared on a Selke ballot across his 13-year career, but he was instrumental as the Avalanche allowed the fewest goals in the league this season, and he contributed to their top-ranked penalty kill. Colorado outscored opponents 61-40 with Nelson on the ice at even strength, and the 34-year-old posted 33 goals and 65 points along with a 50.4% mark in the faceoff circle.

Suzuki earned downballot Selke votes the past two seasons but is a finalist for the first time after a standout campaign in which he recorded a career-high 101 points. Montreal outscored opponents 94-58 with Suzuki on the ice at even strength, and the Canadiens captain won 50.4% of his faceoffs.

Florida Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov won the Selke the past two seasons. This year's winner will be unveiled after the regular season.
