The Ottawa Redblacks finally snapped their losing streak Friday, defeating the Toronto Argonauts 40-39 at TD Place Stadium to claim their first win of the season.

Trailing 39-33 in the final 30 seconds, Redblacks rookie quarterback Bryson Barnes found a soaring Ayden Eberhardt with six seconds left to help Ottawa secure its first win since September 2025.

The Redblacks are now 1-16 this season after ending a 22-game skid that dated back to last year. The team had last won a game Sept. 5, 2025, against the BC Lions.

Ottawa is no longer in danger of becoming the first team in modern CFL history (since 1958) to go winless in a season. Barnes passed for 339 yards in his first CFL start to help the Redblacks upset the Argonauts at home.

Toronto has already clinched second place in the East ahead of the playoffs. The Argonauts lost starting quarterback Chad Kelly in the opening quarter due to a lower-body injury. Backup Nick Arbuckle threw for 315 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.

Friday's thriller was the Redblacks' final opportunity to win at home in 2026. They wrap up their season Oct. 24 on the road against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
