Cleveland Cavaliers general manager Mike Gansey agreed to become the Philadelphia 76ers' president of basketball operations, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania.

Gansey replaces Daryl Morey, who was fired after six years with the organization.

Gansey beat out Nick U'Ren of the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury for the 76ers' top executive opening after each candidate had one last meeting with team ownership, according to Charania.

The 43-year-old Gansey worked under Koby Altman for the past four years, helping build the Cavs into a contender.

Ex-Golden State Warriors executive Bob Myers led the search for Morey's successor and will work closely with Gansey, Charania added.

Philadelphia hasn't advanced past the second round of the NBA playoffs since making the Finals in 2001.

Gansey initially joined Cleveland in 2012 as a member of the Canton Charge's front office. He was named general manager of the Cavs' G League affiliate prior to the 2015-16 campaign and earned G League Executive of the Year honors in April 2017.

Before joining the executive ranks, Gansey had a brief four-year pro career after going undrafted in 2006. He split his college basketball career between St. Bonaventure and West Virginia.
