Florida is expected to start sophomore quarterback Tramell Jones Jr. on Saturday against Oklahoma, sources told CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz.
Jones replaced struggling starter Aaron Philo after three drives in the Gators' 27-8 loss to Georgia last week. Philo was making his return from a shoulder injury that had sidelined him the week prior.
"It was, 'Hey, we need a spark,' and I thought Tramell came in and strung a few drives together," Florida offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner said postgame when asked about the quarterback change, according to On3's Zach Abolverdi.
He continued, "At that point, the best thing to do is continue to let that kid play it out. He's earned that right. So, we'll continue to evaluate everything that we do, like we have, and both continue to get reps, like they have, and we'll go from there."
Jones made his first career start versus Texas on Oct. 17, completing 22 of 35 passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns while adding 41 yards on the ground. He led Florida to a comeback victory, erasing a 14-point deficit.
In relief of Philo against Georgia, Jones threw for 172 yards with one interception. Philo exited the contest after throwing two interceptions on seven attempts.
Florida (5-3) has lost three of its last four games after starting the season 4-0.
