The New York Jets said former All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick misspoke following Sunday's 38-33 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.
"I think we had some bad penalties, bad mistakes," Fitzpatrick said postgame, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN. "Jets being Jets."
Fitzpatrick's comment immediately attracted attention on social media. However, two hours later, a team spokesperson stated that Fitzpatrick had intended to say: "Jets beating the Jets."
New York (2-6) was outscored 24-10 in the second half after scoring on its first six possessions at MetLife Stadium. Only two teams have lost a game since 2000 after scoring on the first six possessions.
Head coach Aaron Glenn has lost 20 of 25 games since arriving in January 2025 with the goal of changing the losing narrative surrounding the team.
New York traded for Fitzpatrick in March before inking him to a three-year, $40-million extension.
The Jets are in danger of missing the playoffs for a 16th straight season, which is the longest active drought in North American sports.
