The Detroit Lions' offense has lost two newcomers at training camp due to injuries.
Running back Isiah Pacheco is dealing with a sprained MCL, head coach Dan Campbell said Monday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. However, the Lions believe that he'll be ready for the team's season opener Sept. 13.
Pacheco is projected to be Detroit's No. 2 running back behind Jahmyr Gibbs. The Lions signed the former Kansas City Chiefs tailback this offseason after trading David Montgomery to the Houston Texans. He won two Super Bowls as K.C.'s leading rusher but also battled several injuries in recent years, missing 17 games over the past three seasons.
Campbell also announced Monday that center Cade Mays will be sidelined for a "significant" period due to a wrist injury, according to Schefter. The 27-year-old fractured a small bone in his wrist, which will force him to miss 8-10 weeks, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Mays' absence is a significant blow to the Lions' offensive line. He was projected to start in 2026 after signing a three-year contract with the team in free agency. Mays has 52 NFL appearances (27 starts) under his belt, all as a member of the Carolina Panthers.
