Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce received a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection in his surgically repaired left ankle, a source told The Athletic's James Boyd.
It's reportedly the second time Pierce has received the injection since undergoing ankle surgery in March. The injection is designed to help heal damaged joints, ligaments, and tendons.
The 26-year-old has yet to practice this offseason and there isn't a definitive timetable for his return, Boyd added.
The Colts signed Pierce to a four-year, $114-million contract this offseason after he enjoyed a breakout year with 47 catches, 1,003 receiving yards, and six touchdowns in 14 games. He led the NFL in yards per reception for the second consecutive campaign.
Indianapolis traded wide receiver Michael Pittman to the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason, making Pierce an even more important part of the offense. Tight end Tyler Warren and slot receiver Josh Downs would project as the Colts' top two pass-catchers to begin the 2026 season if Pierce is forced to miss the start of the regular season.
