Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kyler Murray cleared concussion protocol and will start the Week 3 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, head coach Kevin O'Connell announced Monday.
Murray, who suffered a concussion during his Vikings debut in Week 1, missed Sunday's win over the Chicago Bears due to the injury.
However, the Vikings have played strong in his absence, with Carson Wentz and a formidable defense leading the team to a 2-0 start.
Wentz has thrown for 276 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions, though all three scores came during Minnesota's comeback win over the Green Bay Packers in Week 1. Meanwhile, the Brian Flores-coached defense has surrendered just 25 points over two games and has produced four takeaways.
Murray threw just five passes in Week 1 before taking a hit to the head and neck region. His first pass attempt as a Viking was intercepted.
Drafted No. 1 overall by the Arizona Cardinals in 2019, Murray signed with Minnesota this offseason and beat out J.J. McCarthy for the starting job. McCarthy was tabbed as the No. 3 QB after losing the battle and will likely revert to that role once Murray returns, with Wentz serving as the immediate backup.
